Guy at the comic shop said my pull list was 'basic' - what do you think?

I was at Cosmic Comics in Portland last Saturday grabbing my weekly stack and this guy behind me sees my copies of Batman and Spider-Man and goes 'you really just read the mainstream stuff huh'. I told him I like what I like and he just shook his head and walked away. Is there really a right or wrong way to choose comics or are some fans just gatekeeping for no reason?

Right on, @emma_baker61, guess I'll need a "deep cut" decoder ring just to buy comics now.

Honestly, I saw this guy on Twitter last week ranting about people who only read Marvel and DC so it's definitely a thing. Ngl, gatekeeping like that is just tiring, read what makes you happy.

Yo "read what makes you happy" part hit the nail on the head. Like @emma_baker61, that's really all it should come down to. Some folks act like reading Marvel or DC is a crime or something, it's so weird. I mean who cares if someone only reads one type of comic or book, be happy they're reading at all. Gatekeeping hobbies like that is just a bad look, let people enjoy things.
