Pro tip: Skipping variant covers saved me $80 this month
I used to grab every variant cover that dropped at my shop on Wednesdays, thinking I had to have them for my collection. Last month, I decided to only buy the standard A covers for my pull list titles like Batman and Amazing Spider-Man. I saved $80 in one month, and honestly, my shelf looks cleaner without all those extra copies. Has anyone else tried cutting variants and found it made reading more enjoyable?

Jumped on this same wagon a few months back actually. I was grabbing every foil and virgin variant for Daredevil and stopped cold turkey - now I just get the main cover and call it done. My wallet went from crying to just quietly complaining, and I realized I barely even looked at those extra copies after the first week. The shelf does look way cleaner, and I actually pay more attention to the story now instead of worrying about which cover I grabbed. It’s kind of freeing, honestly, like I’m reading comics again instead of treating them like stock options.

Yeah the "not looking at them after the first week" part hit home hard. I had a stack of Batman variants from last year that I literally never took out of the bag again, just sat there taking up space in my closet. Once I realized I was spending an extra $15-$20 per issue on covers I'd never actually display or read, it clicked. Now I just grab whatever regular cover catches my eye at the shop and flip through the story right there, feels way more like what I actually wanted out of this hobby.
