Had a harbor seal steal my fin bag off the dock in Port Townsend last Thursday
I was gearing up by the water and that little thief just swam right over, grabbed the strap with its mouth, and took off toward the pier - has anyone else had marine life swipe their gear before you even got wet?

that little thief knew what it was doing, fins aren't cheap. guess the seal figured it was time to get its own dive gear and start a new career. honestly though, better the dock than your car - at least you got a funny story out of it

Oh absolutely, "that little thief knew what it was doing" is right. I had a sea lion in Monterey grab my weight belt right off the bench while I was adjusting my mask, dragged it about twenty feet down the dock and just sat there chewing on the rubber. Took me and another diver both grunting and shooing to get it back, and the thing looked annoyed like we were the rude ones. I swear they watch us gear up and pick their moment, same as that seal of yours picking the strap on your fins. At least yours was a clean getaway story, mine cost me a new weight belt because the thing gnawed the buckle to pieces.
