Hot water recirc or just wait - which way do you go?

I've been diving off Port Fourchon for 6 years and always just dealt with the cold until I hit 50 feet for 3 hours in January. A buddy swore by his thermal undersuit, but I tried a heated vest last month and it made a huge difference. Anyone else find that electric heat beats gas recirc systems for long bottom times?

Yeah I read somewhere that electric vests are way more efficient at keeping your core warm than recirc systems because you don't lose heat through the hoses lol. That three hour January dive sounds brutal, glad the vest worked out for you.

That's a common belief, but the heat loss through the hoses is actually pretty small compared to what you gain from recirc systems being able to use a bigger battery on the surface. Still, electric vests are simpler and easier to maintain, so they have their place.
