Update: the 2 minute habit that saved my surface swims on the Mississippi job
Two weeks ago on a pipeline inspection near Baton Rouge my surface swims kept drifting off line because I was fighting the current the whole way. I started doing one dumb thing before every splash: I spit in my mask, look at the boat's cleat, and pick a fixed point on shore to swim toward instead of staring down at the water. Cut my swim time by about 90 seconds each way, and now I want to know what little pre-dive tricks you all swear by that never made it into any manual.
