Rant: Seeing the library go digital changed how I view book repairs.

Oh, it's totally glamorous stuff, lol. Like, last week I spent three hours reattaching pages to a cookbook that smelled like burnt cookies. Another time, I fixed a mystery novel where the climax was literally falling out. It's less about ancient scrolls and more about saving books people actually use and abuse. So yeah, 'meaningful' means I'm basically a book doctor for well-loved disasters.

I finally got why my basil plant bolts in the heat!

Try moving it to a cooler spot.

Warning: My first brisket came out like leather, but this weekend's pull was tender as butter.

Used to think brisket was always a gamble. Your post shows it's skill, not luck. My first few tries were just sad. Now I see the importance of patience. Watching the temp made all the difference for me too. Your progress really changed my view on smoking.

Serious question, is there a push for safer finishes in your shops too?

Ugh, don't get me started. I'm pretty sure I lost a few brain cells to oil-based varnish fumes in my early twenties. My old shop smelled like a chemical plant. I've been trying a bunch of the new stuff, and like @nguyen.kevin said, the water-based polys are a game changer. The smell is gone so fast you can almost work in the same room. It's not perfect for everything, but for most of my indoor pieces, it's what I reach for now. Feels good not to gas myself out.

Our foreman's new 'efficiency' push is hurting our finishes.

Man, it's the same with chores at home. Skip one step to save time and you pay for it later. The hurry just eats away at doing things right.
