Vent: a client's 2019 laptop came in with 512GB of pics and only 4GB of RAM, and I felt sick
I had a walk-in at my bench in Reno last week with a Dell Inspiron that was crawling. I ran Task Manager and saw it was using 3.8GB of 4GB just sitting on the desktop, then pulled the drive and found 512GB of photos and videos on a single 1TB drive. The client told me they had never backed any of it up because the machine felt fine for the first 3 months. I cloned the drive to a spare SSD first thing because I was not about to be the guy who lost 8 years of family stuff. What got me was that the original RAM stick was soldered, so the only real fix was a new board or a new machine. I spent 2 hours explaining why 4GB was not enough for Windows 11 and Chrome with 40 tabs, and they still asked if I could just clean it up. How are you all handling these soldered RAM machines when the client has no budget for a swap?
