TIL you can fix a 3 inch spall on a garage apron with a $20 bag of stuff and 2 hours
My neighbor's apron in Mesa had a chunk the size of a dinner plate that had popped off, and he was quoted $600 to replace the whole slab. I chipped the loose stuff out with a chisel, brushed it clean, and used a bag of Rapid Set cement all with some bonding agent. Two hours later it was hard as a rock and matched good enough that you gotta look close. Anybody got a trick for keeping the patch from hazing a different color than the old concrete?
My buddy tried the same thing on his driveway and the patch looked fine for about a week. Then it dried way lighter than the old concrete, like a big pale scar. He ended up rubbing some dirt and a little motor oil into it, which sounds gross but it actually blended okay. The real fix is to keep it wet while it cures, cover it with plastic and mist it, so it cures slower and doesn't turn that chalky white. Also mix it a touch wetter than the bag says. Too late for his driveway but worth trying next time.
