Finally debunked my own 'satellite photo' obsession after 4 months
I spent the better part of four months digging into those grainy satellite images of the desert that everyone claims show secret landing strips. Turns out they're just old mining roads from a 1980s geological survey. I found the actual survey report through a library archive in Tucson, not even a top-secret document. The coordinates matched perfectly once I overlayed the old map on Google Earth. My whole 'hidden base' theory collapsed because I never checked the obvious public record first. It felt dumb but also weirdly good to admit I was wrong. Has anyone else had a rabbit hole end because a simple government PDF ruined everything? What was your 'gotcha' moment?

Heard some military historian say those desert lines are usually just old seismic survey tracks.

Whoa, hold on, I mean that's a cool story and all, but maybe those old mining roads were just the cover story. Like, the survey report could have been planted or updated after the fact to throw off people like you who dig too deep. Idk, I just find it hard to believe all those "coincidences" line up so perfectly unless someone wanted them to.

That bit about the report being "planted or updated" hit close to home. My buddy Mike actually worked for a surveying company back in 2019, and he told me about this one job out in Nevada where they got paid extra to "re-date" some old maps. Not to change the routes or anything, just to make them look more recent than they were. He said the client never explained why, just that it was for "insurance purposes" and to not ask questions. He's not the type to make stuff up either, he's a pretty boring guy who mostly talks about his dog. So when I see people say those roads line up too perfect, I just think about Mike and that weird job. Makes you wonder what else got quietly touched up over the years.
