My uncle swore the moon landing was faked, then my 7 year old asked him one question at Thanksgiving
He went quiet for a second and said 'well the flag was waving' so my kid asked why astronauts can jump around up there if there is no air to push off. He changed the subject to the Cowboys game and never brought it up again. Anyone got a good comeback for the waving flag thing that actually works on stubborn relatives?
The flag waving thing is easy to explain actually. The flag had a rod holding it out so it would stay visible in no air, and it wiggles when they touch it because there is nothing to stop the movement, like how a swing keeps going longer if nothing slows it down. Your kid already nailed the better point with the jumping, but stubborn relatives don't care about facts anyway. Does winning the argument even matter when the guy just wants to believe his thing?
