Pro tip: I used to trust raw satellite imagery for storm tracking, now I cross-check everything after last March

Back in 2021 I would just pull up the live radar on my phone and go, assuming that was the ground truth, you know? Then last March I was watching a cell near Tulsa and the satellite showed it falling apart while the ground reports were screaming about hail the size of golf balls. Turns out the satellite loop was 15 minutes delayed and the algorithm smoothed out the worst cores, which nearly sent me driving straight into a mess. Now I overlay the radar with spotter reports and the NWS text warnings before I move, even if it takes an extra 10 minutes. Has anyone else caught a big gap between what the apps show and what's actually happening on the ground, or am I just paranoid about the wrong data feed?
