Back in March I got a voicemail from someone claiming to be with the FCC about my internet outage complaint. I almost deleted it as a scam, but they referenced my ticket number from 2023 and knew my street in Portland. Turns out real agencies do call sometimes, and my habit of ignoring every unknown number cost me a faster fix. Has anyone else missed legit contact because they filtered everything through a conspiracy lens?
Wrote off a call from a 971 number last year as a total scam. Blocked it right away. It was actually the Oregon DMV about a title problem on my truck. Took me three extra weeks to sort that mess out in person. Used to think every unknown call was a trick, plain and simple. Now I check the voicemail before I hit block. Saved me a headache last month when my bank flagged a weird charge.
