The $150 dehumidifier that kept my basement dry or just my wallet empty?

I bought a mid-range dehumidifier for $150 last spring to stop the musty smell in my Ohio basement. Six months in, it's pulled gallons of water and the air feels cleaner, but my electric bill jumped about $18 a month. Some folks say you need a $400 unit with a pump to really fix moisture problems, while others swear cheap ones do the job. So did I dodge a mold disaster or just pay for a fancy fan? Anybody else see real results from a budget dehumidifier or did yours conk out after a season?

Plus side, your electric bill shows someone's finally paying attention.
