The estimator in Tampa warned me about drone footage, and he was right

He said the 4K marketing footage makes every site look perfect, but it hides the real grading issues that bite you later. I showed it to a client last Tuesday and they approved a foundation plan based on that clean shot, now we're dealing with a drainage fix that's gonna run about $6k extra. Anyone else stopped trusting aerial shots for anything past the sales pitch?

That Tampa estimator hit the nail on the head. I read a piece in a trade journal about how the wide angle lenses on those drones can make slopes look flat, and it can mess with how you judge water flow on a site. The footage is great for showing off a finished project, but for grading it's useless unless you've got the survey data to back it up. That $6k drainage fix is rough, but honestly it could've been way worse if the foundation pour went through as planned. I still ask for the raw photos from the ground level before I make any call on dirt work now.
