Vent: My drone mapping project in Phoenix was off by 8 feet until I tried this simple fix

I was using a standard consumer drone for site surveys on a small commercial lot. The GPS drift was so bad the 3D model was useless for accurate grading plans. A surveyor on site told me to just lay down four cheap, high-visibility ground control points myself before each flight. I used 2x2 foot orange vinyl squares from a hardware store, weighted with rocks. My next model aligned perfectly with the surveyor's data. Has anyone else found a good DIY marker that holds up in wind?

I always thought you needed fancy gear for that... but those vinyl squares are a total game changer.

Forget the fancy gear, right? @charles706 is onto something with that DIY spirit. Vinyl squares are cheap and they just work. Makes you wonder what else we've been overpaying for.

Hey @skyler_robinson2, try cutting up an old traffic vest and duct-taping the pieces to some pavers.

My old neighbor built a whole greenhouse from scrap pallets and old windows. It's amazing how much stuff we already have that can be repurposed if you just look at it differently. That DIY mindset saves a fortune.
