Client told me my blowout was 'too perfect', changed everything about how I finish

So last month a regular client in Austin said my blowout looked like a mannequin head. She meant it as a compliment but also said it felt stiff and unnatural. I was honestly kind of offended at first. But then I played with leaving the roots a little less crisp and using a round brush only on the ends. Now I get way more compliments on 'lived in' styles. Has anyone else gotten criticism that sounded harsh but actually improved their technique? What did you change?

Took me a minute to get over that kind of feedback too, cause nobody likes hearing their work feels off. But once I sat with it, I realized she was right about the stiffness. I started skipping the heavy hairspray and just using a little texture paste on the ends, plus I let the roots air dry halfway before I hit them with the dryer. Now the style moves when people walk, which sounds dumb but it's a game changer. Those rough comments sting, but they stick with you for a reason.
