I used to think expensive toner was a scam until a client's reaction made me swap my whole shelf
For like 4 years I bought the cheap stuff from the beauty supply, figured toner was just water with a smell. Then last month a regular client with oily skin sat down and after I used my usual astringent she goes 'did you change something? my face feels tight in a bad way.' I shrugged it off. Next appointment I grabbed a $18 bottle of a pH balancing toner from a brand I never tried, just because the store was out of my normal one. She noticed the difference in like 2 minutes. Her skin looked less blotchy under the light and she said it felt clean but not squeaky. So now I'm thinking I got the whole science backwards. It's not about how strong the alcohol is, it's about matching the pH to the skin. Has anyone else had a client call out a product swap like that? I'm looking for a good middle ground price, not the $40 luxury stuff but not the $4 junk either.
