Switched to a 4-section part method after a client complained about her roots last month
I have always done 6 sections for highlights, thought more sections meant better coverage. This client comes in with thick, straight hair and says her roots look patchy after her last color. So I tried a 4-section part on her crown area only, and the blend was way smoother. Made me realize I was over-complicating things for certain hair types. Anyone else find that less sections actually work better sometimes?

Had a friend try 6 sections and her regrowth looked crazy. She switched to 4 for thick hair and it fixed everything.

My friend tried 6 sections once and her regrowth was a total mess. She has really thick hair too, so it just looked stringy and uneven after a few weeks. She went back to 4 sections and it was like night and day, everything laid down smooth again.

Not sure I agree with you @iris_schmidt, and Ive got pretty thick hair myself that can get wild. With 6 sections, the key is making sure each section is actually square and clipped up tight so theres no tension pulling on the regrowth. Most people rush through the parting step and end up with uneven sections that cause the issues you're describing. For my hair, 4 sections never lays down flat either, it just bunches up weird around my ears and nape. Six sections let me really lay each piece where it wants to go without fighting the rest of the hair. If your friend had stringy results, she might have been pulling the sections too tight or not combing them out properly before smoothing.
