Green light on my first tower crane solo lift, 3 years of seat time paid off
Last Friday I finally ran a full tower crane cycle without the foreman up the ladder, took a 2.4 ton bundle of rebar to roof level at the Riverbend job in Memphis. Wind was steady at 18 mph and it picked clean, no drama. Anybody remember their first solo go and how long they waited to feel normal about it?

Three years waiting for that green light feels about right from what I have seen, and honestly I used to figure seat time was mostly just a formality til I watched a guy with 8 months get bumped up too early and nearly dump a load of decking over the side. Something about running that full cycle without anyone hovering over you flips a switch in your head, and the nerves do not really fade til you have done it maybe a dozen times in different wind. Took me closer to a month after my first solo before I quit white knuckling the joystick every swing.
