Showerthought: new guys keep greasing the slew ring on the wrong side and wonder why it still grinds
Had a helper on a 60 ton Grove last Tuesday in Amarillo who packed grease into the outer gear teeth because that's what the manual picture looked like to him. The fitting he needed was tucked behind the cab on the inner race side, and the teeth were dry as a bone after two weeks of swinging. I only know because I watched the old operator at my last outfit pull the cover and show me the wear pattern, not because I read it anywhere. Anyone else had a greenhorn do this, and how do you drill it into them without sounding like a jerk?
