Wind knocked my load sideways over I-5, here's how I kept it from swinging into traffic

Last month near Tacoma, a 40 mph gust caught my 12 ton steel beam just as I cleared the bridge, so I dropped the load to 2 feet off the deck, killed the swing by feathering the boom down and picking up a foot of slack, and rode out the next 3 blocks at a crawl until I could set it down on a flatbed, anyone else ever have to fight a sudden crosswind like that and what's your go-to move?

Dropping the load lower just makes the swing worse in my book.
