A guy in my writing group told me my prompts were too open, so now I hand out 3 weird details with every one
Last Tuesday at the library meetup on 5th Street, this guy Derrick read my prompt about a locked door and asked me one question: who is holding the key and why are they lying about it? That annoyed me at first, but he was right. My prompts were just blank rooms, so now every one I write comes with 3 random details like a cracked watch, an overdue library book, and a dog that won't stop barking at the closet. The stories people bring back are way stranger and more fun. Do you all hand out extra details with your prompts, or do you like leaving them wide open?
