Chose the literary agent with the worse portfolio and it cost me 7 months
Back in March I had two offers for my mystery novel. One agent had a great track record with debuts, sold 5 books last year, big social media presence. The other was newer, only 2 clients, but she sent me a 3 page editorial letter that got the story in a way the other one never did. I picked her because I thought passion mattered more than stats. Seven months later she's only sent it to 4 publishers, no bites yet, and one of her other clients just left her. Meanwhile the first agent sold a similar book to mine in June. I keep second guessing myself. Has anyone else picked the underdog and regretted it, or am I just being impatient?
