My 50th writing prompt hit me harder than my first one did
I've been using this sub for about two years to jumpstart my short stories. Last Tuesday I scrolled to my saved prompts folder and realized I had actually written something for 50 different ones. That number surprised me because I never stick with hobbies this long. The kicker is that the prompt that finally felt right was just about a character missing a bus stop. The simpler ones seem to work better for me than the big fantasy setups. Has anyone else hit a random number like that and felt weirdly proud of it?
Watched my buddy do almost the same thing last year. He had this running list of story ideas in his phone notes and one day he counted them up and it was somewhere in the sixties. What finally got him writing again was some dumb prompt about a guy who keeps getting the wrong mail. Not dragons, not the end of the world, just junk mail for a stranger. He cranked out three stories off that one idea in a weekend. The small stuff gives you room to breathe, I guess. Big setups just make you freeze up.
