Saw a guy at the credit union trying to buy a house with a 580 score

He was getting a hard no from the loan officer because he only disputed old collections. You need to build new positive credit too, like a secured card for six months. Anyone have a lender that works with thin files?

Sounds like a lot of hassle for a house.

My cousin got a house loan last year with a 590 score from a local credit union. I mean, they made him get a secured card for a few months first, but it worked. Some smaller banks will look at your full story, like if you've had the same job for years. It's not just about the number.

Yeah but @terryscott, that sounds like a ton of extra work just for a maybe.
