Saw a landlord in Cleveland hand out rent receipts from a shoebox and it made me mad
I was at a laundromat on West 25th last Tuesday and watched this guy pay his rent in cash to the building manager right there in the parking lot. The manager wrote the amount on the back of a store receipt and shoved it in a shoebox, no ledger, nothing. Here's the thing, that tenant has zero proof of payment if the guy ever claims he didn't pay, and any missed mark hurts his credit history when he tries to move. I keep telling people to pay with a money order and keep the stub, or at least get a signed receipt every single time. Has anyone dealt with a landlord who refuses to give real receipts, and how did you build a paper trail?
