A random commenter pointed out my survivor bias in a cult exit story I told
They said I kept blaming the 'weak-minded' for joining, but my own exit took 3 counseling sessions and a landlord who evicted me, so now I check my framing before I post any personal account here; has anyone else had to revisit their own story after feedback like that?

Honestly, it's kind of wild how we all rewrite our own history to make ourselves look smarter in hindsight, right? Like, nobody wants to admit luck or outside help got them out of a bad spot, so we just tell the version where we were the hero. It takes a stranger calling you out to realize your story was missing a few key characters.
