Why does every cult doc skip the part where people just... go home?

Watched 4 docuseries this month and only one mentioned that most members quietly leave and go back to their normal lives, which is honestly the part I want to hear about. Does anyone know a good interview or book that covers the boring exit instead of the dramatic raid?
