Vent: My cousin swore the food court Chinese place in our dead mall was gross, but I ate there 20 times and never got sick
My cousin Denise kept telling me the little Chinese spot in the food court at Northgate Mall in Tacoma was nasty and I should never eat there. She said it twice, then a third time at a family thing in 2021, so I finally just tried it out of spite. That place, Golden Wok Express, had the same owner, Mr. Chen, working the counter for god knows how long, and I got the $6.50 combo plate with orange chicken and fried rice at least 20 times over the next two years. Never once got sick, never got a weird piece of chicken, nothing. Meanwhile Denise got food poisoning from a Chipotle in 2022 and I still don't let her forget it. The mall finally shuttered last March and Mr. Chen posted a little sign saying thanks for 30 years, which honestly hit harder than I expected. So yeah, sometimes the sketchy looking spot in a dying mall is the one that treats you right. Where's the dead mall food you kept going back to even when people gave you grief about it?
