Serious question, did that $5 mystery box app actually hook me or did I just get lucky with a $40 headlamp?
I downloaded one of those random mystery box apps back in March mostly to make fun of it, paid $5 plus shipping for a box that showed up from a warehouse in Ohio three weeks later. Inside was a headlamp that sells for $40 on the brand's own site, plus two phone cables and a keychain I'll never use. My girlfriend says I got played by the sunk cost of a cheap thrill, but I ran the numbers and I'm actually up $22 if the lamp is real. The catch is I caught myself about to buy a second box last night and stopped, because one win is not a pattern and I know how these apps make their money. Has anyone else actually tracked a few of these boxes over time, or did you quit after the first one?
