The $8 duster that outlasted my $90 one, still confused

Back in 2019 I ordered one of those as-seen-on-TV feather dusters from a late night ad, figured it was a total dud but the price was so low I didn't care. Honestly it sat in my closet for months until my fancy microfibre wand finally fell apart after two years of use. Out of desperation I grabbed the cheap one and that thing has been going strong for 4 years now, no shedding, no broken handle, nothing. Meanwhile my sister bought the same brand from a different seller on an auction site and hers broke after three uses, so I guess it's a lottery more than a brand thing. Anyone else have a random cheap item that just refuses to die while the name brand stuff keeps failing you?

Is it just me or does it seem like cheap stuff is made to last these days while the expensive stuff is made to break so you buy another one? I've noticed it with tools and even clothes, seems like the whole market flipped on us somewhere around 2019.
