Went to a flea market in Phoenix and every booth was selling the same 'discount' LED lights

Stopped by the big flea market off the 17 last Saturday. At least 6 different booths had these identical LED strip lights, all marked down from like $40 to $12. Talked to one guy and he admitted they buy them by the pallet for about $3 each. I grabbed one just to test it and the remote stopped working after 2 days. Anyone else see these same lights everywhere or did I just find the worst booth? How do you spot the real deals from the bulk junk at these places?
