Just figured out why that '1 in 3 students' stat kept showing up everywhere
Honestly I got annoyed seeing that literacy number in like 6 different articles last month, so I pulled the actual survey. Turns out the sample was only 2,300 kids from 45 schools in one state, and the news stories left that part out entirely. I put both numbers side by side in a spreadsheet and the gap was wild, it's a state figure dressed up as a national one. Ngl it took me maybe 20 minutes of clicking through footnotes, which is less time than I wasted arguing about it at dinner. Has anyone else gone down a rabbit hole like this on a stat that turned out way narrower than the headline?
