My barber told me the 70% stat about guys not washing their pillows was made up, and so I looked it up
I was in the chair at Ray's on 5th getting a fade on Tuesday and he mentioned some stat about how most guys never wash their pillows. I chimed in with a number I saw on a TikTok that said 70% of men wait a full year. He laughed and said his wife works in a hotel laundry and that number sounded way off. That got me curious so I pulled the actual survey it came from, and it turns out it was 200 people from one online panel with no screening at all. Anyone else seen this stat floating around and can point me to a real source?
The "200 people from one online panel with no screening" part is the whole story right there. I have to laugh because I spent a solid week feeling gross about my pillow after seeing that number, and it turns out it was basically a poll of 200 guys who probably all clicked through it while sitting on the toilet. That is not a survey, that is a group chat. The real answer is that nobody has good data on this because nobody funds a study about how often dudes wash their bedding. If you want to feel bad about yourself, just skip the fake stats and look at your pillow without the case on. Mine has a yellow tint that no number on TikTok can make me feel worse about.
