PSA: That "9 out of 10 dentists" stat has a sample size of like 20 people
I got stuck in a waiting room last Tuesday and picked up a dental magazine, mostly out of boredom. Buried on page 30 there was a tiny footnote saying the survey behind that famous claim came from 22 dentists in one city. So basically two guys disagreeing flips the whole thing. I pulled up two more of those "4 out of 5 experts" ads on my phone right there and neither one listed a sample size anywhere. Does anyone have a go-to way to check if a stat like this has real weight behind it, or do you just hunt for the fine print?
