That crowd count at the county fair in Ohio last August was way off

I was working a booth at the fair and they announced 80,000 people through the gates on Saturday. But we only sold 12,000 wristbands for the rides and the parking lot had maybe 3,000 cars tops. I counted cars with a buddy during my break and it didn't add up at all. Anyone else catch these inflated crowd numbers at local events and wonder who's fudging the count?

...and all I could think was, who's counting with their eyes closed? I was stuck at the funnel cake booth on Saturday and the lady next to me swore we had a line stretching to the livestock barns, but I swear it was maybe 20 people deep at the peak. We sold out of powdered sugar mid-afternoon and the "80,000 crowd" couldn't have eaten that many cakes if they tried. My buddy counted cars with a clicker too and got 2,800, which means either everyone carpooled with 25 people each or the fairgrounds magically expanded. I'm terrible at math, so maybe I'm the one who's off, but something smells worse than the porta-potties.

Preach, that math just doesn't add up at all.
