That viral 'cherry in soda' trick turned out to be a total hoax for me in Tulsa
Last Friday my cousin sent me a clip of a cherry turning rock hard after sitting in soda, claiming it was proof of all the sugar and chemicals. I tried it with a fresh cherry and a can of cola from my fridge in Tulsa, left it for 6 hours, and nothing happened except the cherry got mushy. Turns out the original video used a cherry that was already frozen or coated in something, and the account deleted the comments explaining it. Has anyone else tested this at home and gotten completely different results than what the viral clip shows?
Wow, and here I was feeling like a real scientist with my one sad cherry floating in a glass of Dr Pepper. Mine just turned into a mushy little blob too, so either we both bought defective cherries or the whole thing is staged like most of those clips. My big experiment ended with me fishing out a squishy fruit and drinking flat soda, which honestly was the worst part. The dead giveaway is that the account deleted the comments calling it out, real demos don't need to hide the questions. Next time I'll save myself the six hours and just eat the cherry.
