Rant: That $150 'dehumidifier' I bought from a Facebook ad was just a fan in a box

I saw this article going around about cheap basement dehumidifiers that promise to pull 50 pints a day. They linked to some blog that claimed it was a top rated unit from some Energy Star list... but I couldn't find that list anywhere. So I bought one from the ad anyway, cost me $150. It just blew air around, didn't collect a drop of water in three days. Has anyone else fallen for one of those viral product roundups that turn out to be fake?

Funny you mention that because my uncle bought one of those "industrial grade" shop fans from a random website once. Thing showed up and it was basically a computer fan glued to a plastic frame. Made this weird humming noise that drove his dog nuts. He left it running for a week hoping it would help dry out his garage after a flood and nothing happened. Ended up just using it to keep mosquitoes away on the porch because the noise was just enough to bother them I guess. Still, seventy bucks for a mosquito fan...

Yeah I read that same article, total scam, they just copy paste fake specs for cheap junk now.

Did you try returning it, or did the company ghost you after you found out it was junk? I've seen those same ads and what gets me is they copy real Energy Star numbers but the actual units don't have the tech to pull any moisture. @singh.harper that uncle story is on point because it shows how these cheap fans just move air without actually drying anything out.
