Saw a post claiming a local bakery was shut down for using expired flour, and the health report proved it
Some rando on Facebook posted a pic of a closed sign at Nell's on 5th with a caption about 3 month old flour, and I almost laughed it off until I pulled the county health site and found the actual report listing a June inspection and a mold issue. Took me 4 minutes to check the inspection log, and the original poster never linked it once. What sites do you all use to run down local claims like this?
That part about "the original poster never linked it once" really gets me, because that is how almost every one of these things goes. Someone hears a rumor, slaps a scary caption on a photo, and it spreads faster than the truth ever will. Good on you for taking four minutes to actually pull the report instead of just hitting share. The county health site is the first place I check too, most of them let you search by place name and show the date of the last visit. After that I usually look at the state licensing board if it involves anything beyond food, and sometimes the local paper if they covered it. It bugs me that the real report said a mold issue from June and the post turned it into "shut down for expired flour," which is not even the same thing. You did the work most people skip, and that baker deserves people like you before the whole town writes them off.
