Shoutout to the Reddit rando who taught me to check the article's own links before believing a single number
Found a viral story last week claiming 40,000 people were displaced by a storm in a city I live near, and when I clicked the source link buried in paragraph 9 it was a 2019 blog post about a totally different storm, so now I do the link check first, does anyone else have a go-to first move when a story smells off?
