Vent: That viral porch collapse video from Houston is missing 12 seconds, and I finally proved it
A clip of a porch collapsing at a house party in Houston got 4 million views last week. Comments were all blaming cheap builders. I frame decks for a living, so I slowed it to quarter speed and the joist hangers were nailed, not screwed, and one whole middle section had no flashing at all. I posted the frames on a reply and it got buried under jokes about the music. Did anyone else catch the edit cut right before the crack?

Cutting 12 seconds out of a party video doesn't mean much on its own. People trim clips for all kinds of boring reasons, bad audio, shaky camera, whatever, so a jump cut isn't proof of anything shady. And nailing hangers instead of screwing them is actually fine if the nails are the right ones, plenty of old decks held up for decades that way. Cheap work happens everywhere, but a 12 second edit and some nails don't add up to a cover up.
