Rant: the deep dive I got on my own spending at a Milwaukee credit union made me see why nobody wants to do this
I sat down with a loan officer at a credit union in Milwaukee last month and she walked me through 14 months of my own statements line by line. Turns out I was spending $260 a month on food delivery without knowing it, and she found it in about 20 minutes with a highlighter and a calculator. I tried to do this deep dive myself twice before and quit both times because I had no idea what to actually look for. Now I want the community to break down a real method for this, like what categories to pull, what counts as a red flag, and how far back you should even go. If you have done a full spending audit, what did the numbers actually show you?
How far back did she say to go, like a full year or more? I heard a segment on a money podcast (maybe Clark Howard?) where they said pull 12 months minimum so you catch the yearly stuff like insurance and gifts. Curious what your CU lady recommended.
