The airport security guy who told me to ditch my fancy lock

Last year at Denver International, a TSA agent spent 3 minutes explaining why my $85 combo lock was pointless since anyone with a TSA master key could open it anyway. He pulled out his own keychain and showed me the universal key, then told me to just use a cheap zip tie for checked bags. Is there any real defense against that, or are we all just pretending locks on luggage do anything?

Yeah that master key thing freaks me out, once saw a guy open 5 bags with a paperclip.

Everything's basically theater once you realize who holds the master keys.
