Visited a museum exhibit on media history and saw a 1920s photo that was clearly doctored

Oh man that's wild! My friend Sarah was telling me about this old family photo her grandma had from the 1940s where her great uncle was supposedly standing next to a guy she swore was a movie star. Turns out when they got it digitized the archivists spotted the shadowing was all off and the light was wrong. Someone had literally cut out a picture of Clark Gable from a magazine and pasted it in there. It looked so real to everyone for decades but totally fake once you knew what to look for. People have been messing with photos way longer than we think.
