TIL my uncle's 1998 warning about chain emails was right, and I sent one anyway
Forwarded a 'your Facebook is about to be deleted' chain text to 14 family members in 2019, felt like a genius until my cousin replied with a link showing it was a hoax from 2016. Now I check Snopes before I hit send, but has anyone else fallen for one of these recently because the wording got smarter?

Checked the actual list of recent viral texts and most of them are still pretty dumb when you read them closely. The "your account will be deleted in 24 hours" thing, the fake package delivery ones, the IRS ones, they all have weird grammar or a link that looks off if you just look at it for two seconds. Feels like people get scared first and read later, which is how these keep working. So yeah the wording gets a little better but its not like these scammers are geniuses, its just that fear makes us skip the part where we think. Honestly falling for one text is not that big a deal unless you actually clicked something or gave info, mostly you just feel dumb for a day and move on.
