Tried spray foam on my stucco crack, now my wall looks like a marshmallow

My place in Tucson has this hairline crack running down the east side, probably from the heat. I watched a video about filling stucco cracks with spray foam before painting, figured it would be quick fix. Thing is, it expanded way more than I expected, like two feet of white goo bulging out of the wall. Took me 4 hours with a putty knife to carve it back down, and now I still have to re-texture the whole spot. Anyone else have a product that turned a 30 minute job into a full day project?

Same thing happened to me with caulk, it just kept coming out like a bad toothpaste tube.
