White rock mulch in Tucson, I think we got it backwards
Drove through a new build neighborhood last month and every single yard had that bright white rock, looks sharp in photos but it bounces heat right up onto the stucco. My neighbor put in dark decomposed granite 2 years ago and his AC runs way less during June, I measured the temp difference with a cheap infrared gun one afternoon, 18 degrees cooler on the surface. The HOA loves the white look but we're literally baking ourselves for curb appeal, has anyone else switched back to darker ground cover and seen a real power bill drop?

Doesn't the darker rock hold way more heat at night too, or did I have that backwards?
