Can we talk about using a heat gun on a seized injector?

Everyone at the shop said to soak it in penetrant for days, but I was in a bind on a 6.7 Powerstroke last Thursday. I carefully heated the injector body with my Milwaukee heat gun for about 90 seconds, tapped it with a brass punch, and it came right out without a fight. Has anyone else had luck with controlled heat instead of just waiting?

Milwaukee heat guns can hit 1000 degrees at the nozzle. You put that on an aluminum injector bore for a minute and a half? I'm amazed the injector itself didn't fuse to the head. That's not controlled heat, that's playing with a blowtorch.

Honestly, that sounds like a recipe for a cracked head. A little heat is one thing, but a full heat gun for over a minute on an aluminum engine? You got lucky it didn't warp anything. Those things get way hotter than people realize.

Read a forum post where a guy warped his valve cover doing exactly that. Heat guns can hit over 1000 degrees if you're not careful. Aluminum doesn't need much to start changing shape.
