Vent: Deleting files while the cloud syncs is a trap

I lost 4 years of family photos last month because I cleaned out my phone gallery while Google Photos was still uploading. The app showed everything as backed up, so I hit delete on about 2,000 shots. Turns out the sync had stalled on a weak Wi-Fi connection in my apartment near Denver, and only half of them made it to the cloud. Now I check the storage details on the website, not the app, before I remove anything. It's a boring extra step, but it beats the sick feeling of scrolling through a folder that's suddenly half empty. Has anyone else trusted that little checkmark icon and paid for it?
