Chose a coworking space over a coffee shop for 3 months in Medellin

I spent 3 months working from coffee shops in Bali before moving to Medellin. Figured I'd save money but the wifi kept dropping during calls with clients in the US. Switched to a coworking space for $150 a month and it paid for itself after the first week. No more hunting for outlets or buying overpriced lattes just to stay. How do you guys deal with finding reliable internet on the road?

You ever try testing wifi speed before you even sit down? I ran into the same problem in Medellin actually. Those coffee shop connections looked fine until I needed to hop on a video call and it just kept freezing. What worked for me was checking coworking spaces on Facebook groups first - other nomads always post about which places have actual fiber optic and not just a shared DSL line. I ended up paying $180 a month at a place in Laureles and it was worth every penny. The real hack is finding a spot that has a backup generator too, cause power outages happen way more than you'd think. Honestly spending the extra cash on a proper workspace beats losing a client contract any day.

Man I feel this in my bones. My last video call in a cafe looked like I was broadcasting from a dial-up modem in 1998. Spent half the meeting frozen mid-sentence like I was posing for a statue. That $180 sounds steep but losing a client over bad wifi would probably cost way more in the long run. I'm still too cheap to commit to a coworking space, so I just bring a portable hotspot and pray now. Trying to find a generator backup spot seems like the real pro move though.
